Tech 2025

We live in the 21st century. It's a new era and time for new ideas. NCFCC promotes innovative solutions and the application of current and future technologies to increase the quality of life for all individuals, families, and communities throughout North Central Florida.

Since the birth of the nation's space program, technology has played a major role in Florida. Presently, Florida is one of the fastest growing high-tech states and was ranked fifth in the nation for high tech employment, in 2000, up from sixth in the previous year.

Next to aerospace and biomedical technology, information technology plays a major role in the overall strength of Florida's economy. Currently, there are more than 9,000 Florida firms employing more than 180,000 workers in information services, software development, and computer hardware. However, most of those companies are located in Central and South Florida.

While many of the leading "technology corridors" around the nation have been built around a university with a strong research program, the impact of the University of Florida on establishing the region as a bustling center for high-technology has been minimal. Despite being the flagship research institution of the state, UF and North Central Florida are not even a close second to Stanford University and Silicon Valley, the University of Texas and the Austin-San Antonio technology corridor, or the North Carolina Research Triangle around Duke University, UNC and NC State.

Tech 2025 is an initiative to attract and retain more technology companies, entrepreneurs, and startup companies to North Central Florida.
