Several
presentations are also heard
The
Greater Chiefland Area Chamber of Commerce met Aug. 24 for its regular
board of directors meeting at Bell's restaurant.
The
chamber welcomed the owners of Southern Ag and Turf, who recently
purchased Brookins' Tractor, as new members and also heard speeches
from several members.
Nancy
Bell-Westbury addressed the group on the subject of education as
she spoke of the upcoming Oct. 6 "Taste of Levy" wine-tasting event
at Dakotah Winery.
The
fundraiser will help endow scholarships for the Central Florida
Community College Foundation. Sponsor costs will range from $150-$900
and will be met by a two-thirds state matching grant.
Chiefland
Citizen General Manager Dale Bowen also spoke of the publication's
participation in the Newspapers in Education program, in which the
Citizen donates hundreds of newspapers to area schools.
Bowen
explained that representatives of the program help teachers work
the use of the papers into class curriculum. He asked for support
from fellow chamber members, but noted that the paper will continue
the program with or without assistance.
The
chamber announced that its upcoming annual Industry Appreciation
Luncheon will be held on Sept. 18 at noon.
A committee
was also formed to study the possibility of combining the luncheon
and the chamber's annual Citizen of the Year banquet into one event.
It
was reported that the chamber's Chiefland office received 170 telephone
calls and 60 visitors in the preceding month. The next regular board
of directors and general membership meeting is scheduled for Oct.
26 at noon.
